Mark Huizenga is in his first term as State Senator for the 30th district, representing parts of Kent and Ottawa counties. The former Mayor of Walker, Huizenga also served as a State Representative for two terms. During his time in office, Huizenga has developed a reputation as a problem-solver focused on delivering real results for West Michigan. He currently holds the most bipartisan voting record of any member of the senate.
Mark is the former Director of Pediatrics for Helen DeVos Children’s Hospital and a current consultant in the health care and environmental sustainability industries. He previously held senior management roles at Spectrum Health (now Corewell Health) and numerous other health care organizations.
Mark has also served as an adjunct instructor at Grand Valley State University, a board member of the Calvin College Board of Education, and a Boy Scouts leader and church deacon.
Mark and his wife, Kris (Nowrocki), have three adult children and three grandchildren.
As a lifelong resident of Kent County, Mark understands what makes West Michigan one of the best places in the world to work, live, and raise a family. He has worked tirelessly to lower costs for hardworking families, including cutting taxes on Social Security, tips, and overtime. Mark has been our voice in Lansing, working to make sure West Michigan has a seat at the table. Throughout his time in office, Mark has championed key organizations that make West Michigan special, such as the West Michigan Sports Commission, the Grand Rapids Art Museum, the John Ball Zoo, and many more. Throughout his career, Mark has remained committed to putting people before politics.
To Mark, public service is about more than a title—it is reflected in how he engages with the community and carries out his work in Lansing. While in office, he played a key role in developing the Financial Disclosure Act, which ensures elected officials act in good faith on behalf of the people they represent.
Mark has also maintained regular coffee hours twice a month, every month, for the past seven years. This provides constituents with consistent opportunities to ask questions, stay informed, and connect directly with their elected Senator. He regularly meets in the district with constituents, one-on-one, and has scheduled a call time each and every week to answer questions and discuss issues that matter most to individuals.
